Helping Cats in Need

As many of you have seen in news coverage yesterday afternoon, the GAHS was called upon to assist in two cat rescue situations, which resulted in double digit intakes for us from each property yesterday with more expected.

We thank all who have reached out asking how they can help. Please be patient with us. Taking in that many cats in one day taxes our staff and normal daily functions.

Since many of these cats are live evidence in a cruelty case, we will be holding them for as long as the case takes. Financial donations are most needed in order to provide the care and resources these cats will need. Donations can be made here.

Additionally, adopting a cat is a great way to help- freeing up a kennel space for another needy cat who is waiting in the wings for an opportunity to find a new home. Right now, we have a CATegory 5 Blizzard promotion on going with discounts on adoption fees for how many inches of snow Lewiston has received!

Supply donations: Check out our wish list and donate items to help with animal care.

Support Maine shelters and rescues! No shelter can do it all alone. We thank the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland (www.arlgp.org) for assisting with the Auburn cats, as well as HART of Maine (www.hartofme.com), Midcoast Humane Society (www.midcoasthumane.org) and Friends of Feral Felines (www.feralfelines.net) for helping the Canton cats.
