Celebrate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week with the GAHS
We’re excited to celebrate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week November 3rd through 9th. It’s a time to recognize and appreciate the hardworking shelters and rescue organizations across the country. At the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society (GAHS), we’re proud to be a part of this vital network, dedicated to providing compassionate care, safe shelter, and second chances to animals in need.
Animal shelters do much more than simply provide a temporary home for pets. Here at GAHS, we strive to create an environment where each animal receives the love, medical care, enrichment, and attention they deserve. Our team of dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that every pet’s journey is as positive as possible—from their first day with us to the moment they find their new home. In addition we aim to support pets in the community with programs such as our Wellness Clinics which provide access to vaccines and our Pet Food Pantry which helps feed hundreds of pets each month.
Over the past year, thanks to the support of our community, we’ve helped thousands of animals receive medical care, behavioral support, and, for many, a loving home. Whether it’s a shy cat who’s come out of their shell through our socialization programs, a dog who’s gained confidence through training, or a special-needs pet who’s found their perfect match, every success story reminds us why we do what we do.
From the caring staff who provide daily support to our animals, to our volunteers who support us in so many ways, and foster families who open their hearts and homes, everyone plays a crucial role in making our shelter a place of hope and healing. Their dedication transforms lives every day, and we’re endlessly grateful for all they do.
If you’d like to show your appreciation for GAHS and the animals in our care, here are some ways to make a difference:
- Adopt: If you’re looking to bring a pet into your life, consider adopting from a shelter like ours. By adopting, you’re giving a deserving animal a second chance and freeing up resources to help others.
- Volunteer or Foster: Volunteers are the heart of GAHS. From walking dogs to assisting with adoption events, our volunteers make a meaningful impact on our animals’ lives. By opening their homes to pets in need our fosterers give much needed care and attention to pets not yet ready to make their match.
- Donate: Every donation, big or small, helps GAHS continue our lifesaving work. Monetary donations go directly toward medical care, food, shelter, and enrichment activities that keep our animals happy and healthy. Donations of supplies like pet food, toys, and cleaning products are also always welcome!
- Spread the Word: Follow us on social media and share our posts! Simply helping us raise awareness makes a big difference. You never know when a shared post could lead someone to adopt their new best friend.
Lastly, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to our community. Your support allows us to do what we do best—helping animals find safety, healing, and love. Together, we’re making a difference for every pet that comes through our doors.
Happy National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, and thank you for helping us make GAHS a place of compassion, care, and second chances!
