Fostering Saves Lives & Warms Hearts

Fostering for the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is an incredibly rewarding way to make a difference in the life of an animal in need. By offering a temporary home to one of our pets, you’re not only giving a pet a safe, loving environment to heal, grow, and thrive, but you’re also helping them take one step closer to finding their forever family. Plus, it opens space in the shelter for us to help even more animals in need. Talk about spreading love far and wide!
Fostering allows pets to experience the comfort and care of a home, something that can be life-changing for animals who may be recovering from medical treatments, having difficulty adjusting to life at the shelter, or learning the confidence they need to be adopted. We also use foster homes to provide a safe haven for pets belonging to people in crisis- giving them the peace of mind to know their animals are ok while they get back on their feet.
When Deb was asked if she could foster six tiny puppies who might need bottle feeding and weaning, she took a look at her schedule and said yes. “Knowing my space and time, I knew it would be better for the pups if I had more than one… so when I heard there were six, I decided it would be best to keep them together and take all six. Bless my husband who said—go for it!”
With a little planning (and a great laundry room setup for easy cleanups!), Deb and her husband gave these fragile pups a warm, loving start. “For me, it is just a matter of creating a routine.”Watching them grow has been a joy—from tiny, sleepy babies to playful, confident pups. “Each little pup has a personality—cuddler, wrestler, chief of playtime, watcher, taste tester, and talker. The roles often change, but they are all fun and sweet pups who will each be wonderful companions in their future homes.”
Deb’s favorite part of fostering? “Watching them become confident pups who are excited to join families.” And join families, they have! All six puppies in this litter found their match during the adoption event yesterday hosted by our friends at Evergreen Subaru.
