Pets are Part of the Family!
Housing challenges are making it harder and harder for families to stay together. Looking back on the past year of intake data, over half of the animals surrendered to us from local owners cited housing issues as the primary reason for them having to part with their pet. Lack of rental properties that allow pets, pet-fees that are out of reach for many income-strapped families, and “pet-friendly” policies that limit the size and number of animals all play a significant role.
GAHS is working with the City of Auburn to help center the conversation on this important topic and encourage pet inclusive policies that keep families together.
