Prudence is grateful for your support!
As soon as the GAHS team met Prudence, we realized she needed more than just a place to stay – she needed compassion, care, and a second chance.
At six years old, Prudence had never received veterinary care. She came to the shelter pregnant and suffering from an ear infection, fleas, skin irritations, and severe dental disease. Our medical team immediately stepped in, giving her necessary treatment and making sure both she and her puppies had the best possible start.
Because Prudence’s journey to recovery would take time, she and her puppies were placed in a loving foster home while she continued receiving care. There, she was finally able to rest, heal, and experience the comfort of a home. Along the way, something wonderful happened – Prudence formed a special bond with her foster family, especially their teenage daughter.
By the time her puppies were weaned and each found wonderful homes of their own, Prudence had received the medical care she needed, including dental work and a spay. And her foster family realized they couldn’t imagine life without her. What started as a temporary stop on her journey became her forever home.

Founded in 1885, GAHS has spent 140 years providing life-saving and life-enriching services to pets and the people who love them. Today, as more families than ever are reaching out for help, those resources are being stretched thin. Programs like our pet food pantry, community spay/neuter services, and monthly vaccine and wellness clinics – along with the daily medical care we provide for animals like Prudence – are only possible because of the support of our community.
With costs soaring and more animals in need, generous supporters offered a $70,000 matching gift, and we have been working to raise $70,000 to reach our $140,000 goal. Every donation made to the Paws to the Future Campaign will be matched, doubling the impact and helping ensure we can continue providing care, keeping families and pets together, and giving animals the second chances they deserve.
